Job Processor Architecture

Overview

The Autodesk Vault Job Processor is a client-server application that connects to the Autodesk Vault server. The job processor is installed on a workstation and it communicates with the Autodesk Vault server to automate data management tasks in Autodesk Vault.

The Autodesk Vault Job Processor comprises the following three components:

1. Autodesk Vault Job Processor – Workstation:

An Autodesk Vault Job Processor Workstation is a dedicated computer in an Autodesk Vault system responsible for executing specific tasks related to data management.

The Job Processor Workstation must have the capability to launch CAD applications and access the Vault to retrieve, update, and generate files automatically. As it consumes hardware resources such as CPU, memory, network card, and hard disk read/write operations, it is recommended that it be set up on a dedicated PC or workstation, rather than a user's PC, to avoid unexpected periods of sluggishness.

This workstation can be physical or virtual and should have specifications similar to those of a CAD workstation. The Job Processor Workstation requires a user account with the appropriate privileges to access the relevant CAD applications and perform automation tasks on documents. This account enables the Job Processor to function similarly to a human user and complete its assigned tasks efficiently.

2. Autodesk Vault Job Processor – Application:

The Autodesk Vault Job Processor application runs in the background on the Job Processor workstation and is responsible for managing the execution of jobs which have been added to the queue either on Vault life cycle transition or schedule.

The Job Processor application executes the job tasks, monitors their progress, and updates the status of each job task in the job queue.

3. Autodesk Vault Job Processor – Jobs:

A job in Autodesk Vault Job Processor is a unit of work that performs a specific task or set of tasks associated with Autodesk Vault, but often using other applications to complete the tasks. The tasks of a job are defined within MINUTE CREATOR, which specifies the actions to be performed.

System Requirements

To ensure that the Job Processor can perform its defined jobs and is consistently available, several requirements must be met during the set-up and ongoing operation of the software.

User

RequirementDetails
Dedicated Windows profileThe Windows profile requires the following:
  • RDP or Citrix access to the Job Processor workstation
  • Non-expiring password
  • Permanently active user session
  • Internet access
  • Email address
Tentech must be provided with the credentials for this account.
Autodesk Vault User AccountEither a local Vault user account or Active Directory.

Licenses

RequirementDetails
Autodesk AccountAn Autodesk Account is required for the purposes of Autodesk license assignment. Tentech must be provided the credentials for this account.
Autodesk Vault LicenseAs a minimum, all Job Processors will require an Autodesk Vault license.

Workstation

RequirementDetails
Must meet system requirements for Autodesk Vault ClientSee Autodesk website for further information. System Requirements for Autodesk Vault Products
Autodesk Vault Client must be installedAs a minimum, Autodesk Vault Client application is required to be installed on all Job Processors
Autodesk Vault Client to Server connectionThe Autodesk Vault Client must be able to establish a connection with the Vault Server
Installation of applications to perform automation tasksInstallation of other applications will depend on the automation tasks the Job Processor is performing, discuss requirements with Tentech Technical Lead, some examples of these applications:
  • Autodesk AutoCAD
  • Autodesk Inventor
Must meet system requirements for any applications that are required to be installed to perform any automation tasksAs the required applications will vary depending on the specific use of the Job Processor, discuss with Tentech Technical Lead.
Always OnlineAutomatic Sleep must be disabled on the Job Processor Workstation. The user session can be locked but must remain active.
System StartupJob Processor application must be set to start on windows login.
RDP / Citrix AccessTentech requires RDP or Citrix access to the Job Processor workstation for the purposes of setup and configuration.
Local Administrator PermissionsTentech requires local administrator permissions on the Job Processor workstation in order to install required applications and configure application settings.
