User Management

The User Management area controls who can access MinuteView and what they can do. It is divided into three main sections:

  1. Users
  2. Groups
  3. Roles

A supporting function, Database User, is also available to manage the SQL connection credentials used by the server.

1. Users

A complete list of every account with access to MinuteView.

Viewing a User

Select a user to see:

  • Linked Accounts – External identities bound to this user (e.g., Autodesk Vault or Autodesk Construction Cloud/ACC accounts). When a MinuteView user is linked to a Vault/ACC identity, they inherit that identity’s permissions in addition to their MinuteView permissions.
  • Assigned Roles – Roles granted directly to the user (roles inherited through groups are not shown here).

Managing Users

  • Create New User – Click New to add an account manually (username, password, and any initial roles/groups).
  • Reset Password – If you are signed in as an administrator, you can reset another user’s password from their detail view.

2. Groups

Groups let you assign roles and manage membership collectively.

Creating Groups

You have two options:

  1. Import from Autodesk Vault – Available only when MinuteView is configured to authenticate via Autodesk Vault (MinuteView for Vault). Vault groups can be imported directly.

  2. Create Manually – Click New to define:

    • Group Name
    • Members (select existing users)
    • Roles Assigned to the Group

Click Save to apply changes, or Discard to cancel.

3. Roles

Roles bundle permissions. You assign roles to users or groups to grant capabilities.

Creating / Editing Roles

  1. Click New to create a role.
  2. Provide a Role Name (e.g., Mesh Access).
  3. Choose one or more Permissions (e.g., Access Mesh). A role can include as many or as few permissions as required.
  4. Save the role. Assign it to users or groups as needed.

Example: A role named Mesh Access might include the Access Mesh permission. Any user or group assigned this role can use Mesh features.

Database User (SQL Connection)

The Database User defines how MinuteView Server connects to the SQL database.

Provide:

  • SQL Server Name (and instance, if applicable)
  • SQL Username
  • SQL Password

These credentials are encrypted on the MinuteView server and used for every database operation.

Tips & Reminders

  • Use roles to define permission sets; use groups to simplify assignment of those roles to many users.
  • Link external identities (Vault/ACC) to reuse existing enterprise permissions.
  • Always keep the Database User credentials up to date after server or password changes.
